I graduated from Upper Iowa University with a BS in Secondary Education with Endorsements in Reading (grades 5-12) and all social studies (grades 5-12). Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, and traveling.

Class Description

20th Century World History Semester One

This course is a focused study of the world in the first half of the 20th century. This course will include instructional units on imperialism, the interwar years and the world wars. In each of the units students will use primary and secondary sources to explore historical themes and gain understanding of the causes and effects of world events.

20th Century World History Semester Two

This course continues the study of the 1900s, focusing on events in the second half of the century. Instructional units include the Cold War, conflict and genocide, and globalization. Students will use primary and secondary sources to examine these world events and to assess the impact on our global community.

United States History Semester One

In this course students will use a variety of sources and materials to critically examine events that have shaped our country from its foundation. Instructional units include colonial America and revolution, the age of expansion, the Civil War and reconstruction, as well as migrations and industrialization.

United States History Semester Two

This course will continue students’ study of United States history using primary and secondary sources, in addition to other materials.  Instructional units will focus on imperialism, the progressive era, economic changes, the world wars, and social changes.  As in semester one, students will use analytical skills and factual knowledge to deal critically with the problems and events in our nation’s history.

Whitney Wikert-Kuecker

Biography

My name is Whitney Wikert and I teach Conceptual Physics and Earth Science at Scavo.  I am from a small town in Iowa and graduated from Drake with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and then a Master of Arts in Teaching.  I taught in the Academic Support Lab at East High School for 6 years, and am excited to be at Scavo.  In my free time I enjoy traveling, doing DIY projects around the house, and spending time with family and friends.
