MECCA speaks to Scavo students

On Monday, May 6th  Scavo High School had the opportunity to have Kirk Nessit, of MECCA, speak to Health, English, and Psychology classes about the importance of understanding addiction.  The speaker engaged the students in conversation and used real life examples related to gambling addictions.  Students were able to discuss how social adaptations occur and how dopamine in the brain plays a role.  Tyler Wadsworth made connections to things he had learned about endorphins.  Students could see how all kinds of addictions fit into the information presented.  Derek Higday mentioned that this presentation made him more aware of a variety of addictions.  Higday said that before the guest speaker he didn’t know people actually sought treatment for gambling addictions.
