Scavo Students Partner with Monroe Elementary

Walking through the halls on Fridays you may spot a student that is much taller than the other students at Monroe Elementary. Students from Scavo Alternative High School along with two of their teachers, Alex Hammer and Dr. Beth Erickson, join Josalynn Agnew’s fifth-grade class for learning and fun every week. This is the second year that the high school students have been working alongside the fifth-graders.

The fifth-graders are put in small groups with a high school student facilitating each one. This week the students were actively involved as they designed their ideal classrooms, learned about gears while building with LEGOs, ate lunch together and ended the day with recess.

The fifth-grade students are already excited about next week when their new mentors will present to them about early American history.
