Class Description

The Academic Support Lab (ASL) consists of many courses that students will complete through an online program called Education 2020 Dynamic Classroom (e2020). Each individual course has its own description and syllabus. Biography

My name is Brent Stemsrud. This is my first year at SCAVO and I am happy to be here. I graduated from Indianola High school and got my degree from Drake. I have 4 kids and live in Des Moines.  I also coach Freshman Football at East.  I am a Special Education teacher in an Academic Support Lab setting.  I am looking forward to a great year.

Biography

Hello!  I am Mr. Praska.  I recently joined the Scavo High School Family this year and am so proud to be a member of this family but I am a seasoned veteran of 9 years in Alternative Education.  I earned my B.A. at Upper Iowa University and then graduated from Moringinside College in 2014 with M.A. in special education.  In my free time (which never seems to be enough), I enjoy being with my wife, outdoors and spending time with my kids (12 & 19).  I also like to fish, canoe and hunt with a bow.

Class Description

I will be co-teaching all English classes and providing extra support and services to students at Scavo.

Biography

I graduated from AIB College of Business with an Associates Degree in Information Technology in 2001.  I graduated from Upper Iowa University in 2010 with teaching licensure as a Business teacher, Instructional Strategist I and Instructional Strategist II, and I am currently pursuing my Masters Degree.  I started working for DMPS in 2010 and have enjoyed my experiences in alternative education.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and reading.

Biography

Hello, my name is Quinn Woodhouse and this is my first year teaching full time. Prior to this I substitute taught for 2 and a half years in Des Moines. I graduated from Grand View University in 2012. I am currently working on my Masters at Morningside University. I enjoy reading and woodworking. I teach special ed English and I am excited to have a great year.

Class Description

The Credit Center will offer a variety of courses to fit student’s academic and behavioral needs.  Students will have the opportunity to take core classes, fine arts, and elective courses in the Credit Center.  Randall Botkin focuses on differentiated instruction to meet each individual student’s needs.  The course will be offered at an accelerated pace so that the students can obtain credits and maximize their time use while in class.

Biography

I am on my 2nd go around with Scavo High School, a veteran of the Alternative Education Experience, I have spent 21 years working with a variety of students.  I earned my B.A. in 1990 from Grand View College, and graduated from Iowa State University in 2000 with an M.E. in Curriculum and Instruction.  In my free time, I enjoy long walks on the beach with my better half, Amy, shooting baskets with Fred Hoiberg and spending time with my kids (3) and friends.  GO CYCLONES.
